Wemade Next and NVIDIA Introduce AI Boss ‘Asterion’ for MIR5 at CES 2025

Wemade Next Co., Ltd., the developer behind MIR4 and a subsidiary of the global gaming leader Wemade Co., Ltd., has partnered with NVIDIA to create the world’s first AI Boss for MIR5, called “Asterion.” Using NVIDIA ACE technology, Asterion is designed to bring dynamic, real-time AI-driven boss battles to the game, offering a revolutionary experience for players. The AI Boss’s debut trailer will be revealed during CES 2025, one of the largest technology expos in the world.

Unlike traditional MMORPG bosses, which follow predetermined scripts, Asterion is powered by machine learning and small language models (SLMs) that allow it to adapt and evolve based on real-time gameplay. The AI system developed by Wemade Next enables Asterion to perceive the game environment, record and learn from past battles, and adapt its strategies. The AI Boss can analyze player compositions, attributes, and positions, dynamically adjusting its tactics, demonstrating advanced strategic thinking and flexibility in combat.

The game demo will highlight the contrast between Asterion’s dynamic behavior and traditional, scripted boss fights. Asterion remembers specific player actions—such as when fire attacks were blocked by shields or when healers revived fallen players—and uses this information to adapt its strategies. For example, it can bypass shielded players, target key support characters like healers positioned behind the front line, and launch fire attacks on fleeing players to gain a strategic advantage.

The collaboration with NVIDIA started at COMPUTEX 2024 and has involved six months of research and development. The project benefits from NVIDIA’s engineering support, including early access to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 GPU for MIR5 development, as well as the use of NVIDIA ACE for digital human technologies and NVIDIA NIM, a set of tools that accelerate the deployment of foundation models across cloud infrastructures.

MIR5 is the first game to integrate NVIDIA ACE technology for boss battles, marking a major innovation that combines Wemade Next’s MMORPG expertise with NVIDIA’s cutting-edge AI technologies. The partnership sets a new standard for adaptive, immersive gaming experiences and will play a key role in the upcoming 2025 release of MIR5, the latest installment in the globally popular Legend of Mir series.

CEO Park Jung Soo of Wemade Next shared that the collaboration marks the beginning of a new era in gaming. “With NVIDIA ACE-powered autonomous characters, MIR5’s AI bosses represent a breakthrough, offering unique encounters in every session. We’re eager to see how this technology will reshape the gaming landscape.”

NVIDIA’s Keita Iida, Vice President of Developer Relations, also highlighted the significance of the partnership: “NVIDIA ACE is helping elevate gaming to new heights. The introduction of AI bosses in MIR5 is a game-changer, demonstrating how AI can create dynamic, personalized character experiences that enhance gameplay.”

Beyond AI Boss battles, Wemade Next plans to expand the use of AI technology in MIR5 and future projects, aiming to redefine the next generation of AAA MMORPGs and set a new industry standard for immersive, adaptive gaming.
