Picture a breezy afternoon in San Diego, where the sizzle of gourmet smash patties meets the gentle pop of a freshly poured local craft IPA. At The Valley in Mission Valley, a vibrant new culinary chapter is unfolding as The Stand debuts its impressive 23rd location. Positioned right at 1640 Camino Del Rio North, just across from the AMC Theatres and Yard House, this bright, spacious sanctuary offers a welcoming spot for moviegoers, shoppers, and discerning food lovers in pursuit of an elevated bite.

To toast the grand opening, the restaurant is hosting a festive celebration on October 8, 2026. The morning kicks off at 10:30 am, leading up to an official ribbon cutting at 11:00 am with founding family members, corporate leadership, city officials, and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce in attendance. Afterwards, guests are invited to linger over a delicious lunch until 12:30 pm. For those who arrive early, the first 50 guests in line will be greeted with a $20 gift card to jumpstart their experience.

The Space and Setting

Designed with open air coastal dining in mind, this footprint stands as one of the brand’s largest yet. The location effortlessly accommodates around 200 guests between its relaxed indoor dining room and an airy, sun soaked outdoor patio. At the center of the experience is a full service bar pouring handcrafted cocktails, crisp local draft beers, and approachable wines chosen to complement the rich, bold flavors on the table.

On the Table

What began as a single family owned restaurant founded by Murray Wishengrad in Encino back in 2003 has grown into a regional sensation, guided by a simple philosophy: scratch made comfort food crafted with top tier, locally sourced ingredients. The menu is an inventive homage to classic American dining:

  • Signature Creations: The indulgent French Onion Soup Burger topped with meltingly rich caramelized flavors, a tender Short Rib Grilled Cheese with crispy golden edges, and a fiery Jalapeño Bacon Cheeseburger.
  • Fresh and Vibrant Bowls: The savory Miso Salmon Bowl alongside the bright, crunchy Chinese Chicken Salad (also available wrapped in a warm tortilla).
  • Plant Forward Delights: Spiced Falafel Wraps, house crafted Veggie Burgers, velvety Mac and Cheese, and hand cut Sweet Potato Fries.
  • Sweet Finishes: Hand spun, velvety milkshakes alongside a deep lineup of gourmet hot dogs, wraps, and seasonal greens.

Community and What Is Next

Beyond the kitchen, connection remains at the heart of the concept. Local schools, teams, and community organizations hosting spirit night fundraisers at this location throughout 2026 will receive 25 percent of event sales back to support their causes. Guests can also tap into exclusive rewards through the brand’s app, including a Buy One Entree, Get One 50 Percent Off grand opening offer through October 2026, plus lively promotions aligned with the MLB Playoffs.

With successful roots firmly planted across Southern California, the brand’s journey continues to gather steam. Food enthusiasts can look forward to upcoming San Diego locations opening in Encinitas and Temecula in early 2027, followed by new outposts across the San Francisco Bay Area and Huntington Beach later that spring.
