JAPAN HOUSE is a visionary global project with locations in London, Los Angeles, and São Paulo, established by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its mission is to foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of Japanese culture within the international community.

At JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles, visitors are invited to explore the best of Japan through thoughtfully designed spaces and a variety of engaging programs. Situated at Ovation Hollywood, the venue spans two floors: the second floor features an exhibition gallery and the WAZA Shop, while the fifth floor includes a multi-purpose hall (Salon) and a library for programs and events. Additionally, the Michelin-starred kaiseki restaurant UKA provides exclusive multi-course dining experiences.

Movie & Bites | “School Lunch of Ashiya City”

This event highlights the cultural significance of Japanese school lunches (kyushoku). Attendees will enjoy the feature film School Lunch of Ashiya City (2022), created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Ashiya City in Hyogo prefecture. The film is a heartwarming tribute to the unique role of school lunches in childhood memories and Japanese culture, blending humor and nostalgia.


Tea Tuesdays | Urasenke Tea Ceremony Pop-Up

  • Dates: Tuesday, January 7, 2025, and Tuesday, January 14, 2025
  • Time: 1 – 2 p.m. or 3 – 4 p.m. (Each session offers the same program)
  • Location: JAPAN HOUSE Gallery, Level 2
  • Fee: $23.18 (incl. taxes and fees)

As part of the Masters of Carpentry: Melding Forest, Skill and Spirit exhibition, guests can immerse themselves in the elegance of the Japanese tea ceremony. Taking place inside the gallery, this “pop-up” experience features JAPAN HOUSE staff sharing insights about the historic Sa-an Teahouse on display. January’s designation as National Hot Tea Month makes this event a perfect opportunity to appreciate tea as an art form.


Holiday Dining at UKA
From Wednesday, December 11, 2024, through December 31, 2024, UKA, the Michelin-starred restaurant at JAPAN HOUSE, will offer a special holiday menu. Visitors can indulge in a curated culinary experience to celebrate the season.
