Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia, Porto’s newly opened luxury hotel, has officially launched its signature fine dining destination: 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar by Nacho Manzano. The restaurant is led by celebrated Spanish chef Nacho Manzano, whose flagship restaurant Casa Marcial in Asturias holds three Michelin stars. Located in the heart of Porto, this refined culinary venue offers a tasting menu-only experience inspired by the Portuguese coastline and Chef Manzano’s Asturian roots.

The restaurant’s name, 1638, pays homage to the founding year of Kopke, Portugal’s oldest Port wine house. This historical connection is reflected not only in the concept but also in the curated wine pairings, which feature some of the finest wines from the Douro Valley, including both Port and Douro DOC still wines.

The ever-evolving blind tasting menu is a multi-sensory journey, revealing each dish in real time to create an immersive dining experience. Chef Manzano’s Iberian haute cuisine is designed to highlight the unique characteristics of locally sourced Portuguese ingredients, emphasizing contrast, texture, and aromatic depth. Guests dine in an elegant setting with panoramic views over Porto, complemented by attentive service and a calm, sophisticated ambiance.

The tasting menu is priced at $154 per person, with two optional wine pairings available: the Gastronomic Wine pairing ($88), which includes a wine for every course, and the Essential Wine pairing ($50), featuring four curated selections. The wine list showcases regional excellence, including rare vintages such as the Kopke 30-Year Tawny Port, along with offerings from Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta da Boavista.

More than a dining experience, 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar is a culinary narrative that bridges the landscapes of northern Portugal and northern Spain, capturing the spirit of the Portuguese coast and the Asturian mountains. Chef Manzano invites both local residents and international visitors to explore a journey of memory, tradition, and innovation, rooted in the Iberian Peninsula’s rich gastronomic heritage.
