B.C.’s highly-anticipated spot prawn season has returned for another year at historic Steveston Village, and locals and tourists alike are invited to celebrate at the second annual Steveston Spot Prawn & Seafood Celebration, organized by Tourism Richmond and the Steveston Harbour Authority. From now until June 18th, the spot prawn festivities are taking place to highlight the popular delicacy and the rich fishing history found at Steveston’s Fisherman’s Wharf. The event offers family-friendly activities, including opportunities to purchase fresh prawns directly from local fishers at the dock and the revival of the “Dine About” program, where local chefs will present the finest spot prawn and seafood dishes from Richmond.

The spot prawn sales commenced earlier this month, and individuals are encouraged to make the most of this year’s celebrations by visiting Steveston Village before June 18th. The key attractions of the celebration include:

Spot prawn & seafood sales at the dock: Visitors are invited to Fisherman’s Wharf to purchase spot prawns directly from the source for a limited time. Local fishers, including the beloved Fisherman Frank of Steveston, return each morning with their fresh catches, and supporting them is highly encouraged. To ensure the opportunity to take home these delectable spot prawns for dinner, it is recommended to arrive early, as they tend to sell out by the afternoon. This unique experience is a true highlight of the spot prawn season.

Dine About with the new Spot Prawn & Seafood Dine About Passport: From June 1st to 18th, the Dine About program offers a culinary indulgence where local chefs and restaurants participate by serving seasonal spot prawn and seafood dishes exclusively during the celebration. This year, the program introduces the Dine About Digital Passport, which launches on June 1st. Reservations are highly recommended to fully enjoy this delightful experience.

Visit the culinary stage at Fisherman’s Wharf: On Saturday, June 10th, and Sunday, June 11th, the Tourism Richmond culinary stage at Fisherman’s Wharf presents cooking demonstrations and insider tips from esteemed local chefs. Chef Robert Clark, the Chief Culinary Officer at Organic Ocean, Chef Harris Sakalis, the Executive Chef at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, and Chef Ian Lai, the Executive Director at Urban Bounty, are among the featured talents. This is an excellent opportunity to witness their expertise firsthand.

Spend a festive day in Steveston Village: Immerse yourself in the vibrant spot prawn celebrations in historic Steveston Village. Enjoy all-ages activities, such as visiting the newly opened Fish Tales exhibition at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site starting on Saturday, May 27th. Capture memorable moments at the spot prawn selfie station, explore the Steveston Tram museum or Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, and discover countless other exciting attractions in the village.

The highly anticipated Dine About program makes a grand return on June 1st, showcasing a collaboration between 12 esteemed local restaurants and chefs in partnership with Steveston fishers. This culinary extravaganza promises an authentic and delightful experience, bringing the freshest local seafood from the ocean straight to the plate. Food enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to secure reservations in advance and to acquire the brand-new Steveston Spot Prawn & Seafood Dine About Passport. By doing so, they can enjoy a $2 discount on the featured spot prawn dish at all participating Dine About Restaurants from June 1st to 18th, 2023. What’s more, with each redemption of the discount, diners automatically enter a draw for a chance to win a Steveston restaurant gift card.

Among the not-to-be-missed establishments featured in this year’s Dine About program are:
