From June 22–25 in Los Angeles, The Golden Ratio Musical Show will be hosted by Jaeger-LeCoultre, offering a warm welcome to its guests. The show takes place in a captivating open-air venue, captivating audiences with its breathtaking sound and light spectacle that pays homage to the Golden Ratio. This remarkable mathematical formula holds the key to the aesthetic harmony that humans are naturally drawn to. The show features an exclusive soundtrack composed by the groundbreaking British musician TØKIO M¥ERS, commissioned by Jaeger-LeCoultre through its Made of Makers program.

Through The Golden Ratio Musical Show, Jaeger-LeCoultre aims to deepen the cultural discourse surrounding design and watchmaking. It explores the intrinsic connections between these disciplines, focusing on the iconic Reverso watch, which is widely regarded as a symbol of 20th-century design. The specially designed setting for the show is the 1931 Cinema, immersing guests in the stylish ambiance of the Art Deco era, during which the Reverso was born. The experience is further enhanced by the presence of the nomadic 1931 Café, offering refreshments. The 1931 Cinema is constructed in an open-air location at Westfield Century City on Santa Monica Boulevard, drawing inspiration from the world’s first drive-in movie theater, which emerged in 1933 and became an integral part of American popular culture.

At the heart of the 1931 Cinema lies The Golden Ratio Musical Show, a captivating presentation that blends sound and light, projected onto a massive screen of cascading water. This 10-minute production tells a compelling story in four chapters, tracing the journey from observing nature and discovering the hidden harmonies that unite its most exquisite forms, to the scientific exploration of beauty’s mystical properties and the quest to define its geometric essence. This pursuit ultimately led to the revelation of the mathematical formula 1.618, also known as Phi (φ). The show delves into the historical impact of this “golden number” or “divine proportion” on culture, architecture, and art. Finally, it concludes by showcasing the Reverso, an eloquent embodiment of the Golden Ratio’s spirit, created during the height of the Art Deco movement.

For The Golden Ratio Musical Show, Jaeger-LeCoultre sought the talents of a ground-breaking British musician and composer, TØKIO M¥ERS, who has been garnering global recognition for his originality and artistry. As a graduate of the esteemed Royal College of Music, TØKIO M¥ERS has gained acclaim for his boundary-pushing compositions that blend classical music with elements of cinema, hip-hop, dance, ’90s soul, and various other influences. Beyond his compositional skills, he showcases remarkable proficiency as a pianist and percussionist, delivering performances of immense range and dynamic power. His works transcend traditional boundaries, creating dialogues between the past and present, thereby redefining the possibilities of classical music.

TØKIO M¥ERS drew inspiration for his commissioned piece from his time spent at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture in the Swiss Jura Mountains. He approached the composition with the explicit intention of heightening the emotional impact of the digital projection featured in the show. Describing his creation as a “short symphony in four chapters or movements,” he crafted a powerful journey for the listeners. To amplify the Golden Ratio theme, he ingeniously translated the numerical value of 1.618 into a tempo of 161.8 beats per minute. TØKIO M¥ERS explains that he incorporated the Golden Ratio as the driving tempo throughout the piece, noting his excitement for writing in this unique tempo and recognizing it as a delightful tempo to work with.

The world tour of The Golden Ratio Musical Show commences in Los Angeles, following its successful debut in Shanghai. The eagerly awaited event kicks off on June 22 with an exclusive gala, exclusively inviting distinguished guests. A highlight of the evening is a live performance by TØKIO M¥ERS, where he will mesmerize the audience with his exceptional soundtrack. Accompanying him on stage is the renowned L.E.Orchband, a collective of exceptional musicians hailing from leading orchestras on both sides of the Atlantic. This collaboration promises an unforgettable musical experience. After this remarkable performance, TØKIO M¥ERS will treat the attendees to a concert featuring his other remarkable works, further enhanced by the signature lighting that adds a dynamic touch to his solo performances.

During its stay in Los Angeles, the 1931 Cinema becomes a captivating and accessible attraction, open to the public free of charge from June 22 to June 25. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a new cultural context that celebrates design and watchmaking. The doors of the space will be open throughout the day, from 10 am to 10 pm. The highlight of the experience will be The Golden Ratio Musical Show, which will commence at 7 pm and run in 20-minute cycles until 10 pm, allowing visitors to engage with the enchanting production.

After concluding its Los Angeles season, the 1931 Cinema and The Golden Ratio Musical Show will embark on an exciting journey to captivate audiences in London and Dubai during 2023, continuing to share the magic and beauty of the show with audiences across different corners of the globe.
