Location and Neighborhood

Sonesta Irvine’s prime location was immediately a standout feature. Situated near John Wayne Airport, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service, making my arrival seamless and stress-free. For those inclined to shop, the hotel provides a shuttle to South Coast Plaza, a premier shopping destination. The proximity to Disneyland and the Irvine Spectrum meant there were ample entertainment options, catering to a variety of interests.

The hotel itself is nestled in Irvine’s bustling business center, offering valet and overnight self-parking options. The neighborhood felt safe and vibrant, filled with an array of dining and shopping opportunities just a stone’s throw away. For guests looking to explore, the hotel is conveniently close to beautiful parks and beaches, offering a perfect blend of urban and natural attractions.

Lobby and Common Areas

Walking into the lobby, I was greeted by a soothing fragrance that permeated the entire hotel, instantly creating a relaxing ambiance. The lobby, bathed in natural light, showcased beautiful design and ample seating, making it a perfect place to unwind or get some work done. The stylish décor and communal tables with Wi-Fi connectivity catered to both relaxation and productivity.

The outdoor patio was a lovely spot to enjoy a handcrafted cocktail. The indoor swimming pool, accessible from the third floor, featured an outdoor section with lounge chairs, perfect for a leisurely afternoon. The jacuzzi, complete with a shower stand, bathrooms, and a water station, added to the staycation experience.

Room Quality and Amenities

I stayed in a Studio Corner Suite, which featured a panoramic view of the city, adding an extra layer of luxury to my experience.  The moment I stepped into my room, I was impressed by the meticulous attention to detail in the renovations. The room exuded a fresh, modern vibe with new furniture, sophisticated lighting, and décor featuring a light, neutral color palette complemented by airy wood tones. The bed was a haven of comfort with plush pillows and high-quality linens, providing one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a while. The room also included an extra blanket and pillow in the closet, catering to any additional comfort needs.

The array of amenities was comprehensive. A large screen TV, mini fridge, coffee maker, safe, steamer, hair blow dryer, and air conditioner were all at my disposal. The bathroom was another highlight, featuring a well-lit mirror that added a touch of elegance. While the standard room comes with a shower, I appreciated the option to request a bathtub.

Dining Experience

Dining at Haven Point Provisions & Spirits was an absolute treat. The restaurant’s Southern California cuisine with a twist, crafted by Executive Chef John Ruiz, offered a delightful culinary journey. I began my meal with the OC Tuna Stack, a vibrant mix of avocado, cucumber, sushi rice, Kani crab, wasabi, tobiko, and ginger soy vinaigrette.

The boneless Galbi short ribs, sous-vide for 12 hours and paired with cabbage kimchi, sesame seeds, pickled peppers, and green onion, were exceptionally tender and flavorful.

The bar offered an impressive selection of drinks. I tried the Firefly mocktail, a refreshing blend of Ritual Gin Alternative, honey, lemon, pineapple, Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, and peach bitters. The drink was a delightful mix of flavors, perfectly balancing sweetness and zest.  For wine enthusiasts, the bar boasts an extensive wine list.

Fitness Studio

For fitness enthusiasts, the hotel’s fitness studio is a dream. Outfitted with the latest Peloton and Precor equipment, along with modern sound and television systems, it offers everything needed for a revitalizing workout.
