Tokyo is one of the world’s great winter cities, and this holiday season, Palace Hotel Tokyo is inviting travelers to experience it in full festive style. The luxury property has introduced “A Tokyo Christmas,” a two night package that pairs seasonal indulgences with the chance to explore the capital’s glittering lights and cheerful Christmas markets in the comfort of a private car.
What the Package Includes
Guests can choose between a Grand Deluxe room, an Executive Suite, or a Premier Suite for their two night stay. Each booking comes with daily breakfast, and a few special touches designed to bring the spirit of the season straight to the room. A 5.9 foot faux Christmas tree, dressed in lights and ornaments, stands ready on arrival, alongside a bottle of Dom Pérignon Champagne, a tin of Christmas cookies, and a holiday cake from Sweets & Deli, the hotel’s pastry shop.
Beyond the guest rooms, the hotel’s public spaces are equally enchanting at this time of year. A stately 16 foot Christmas tree anchors the grand lobby, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the season.
Exploring Tokyo’s Winter Lights
From early November through the Christmas holidays, spectacular light displays illuminate neighborhoods across the city, and the hotel’s concierge team can turn an evening out into a memorable tour. Guests may arrange a private chauffeured drive to some of Tokyo’s most dazzling installations, beginning with Marunouchi Naka Dori, a tree-lined boulevard stretching 0.8 kilometers (about half a mile) from the hotel’s doorstep toward glamorous Ginza. Stylish Omotesando and vibrant Shibuya also feature on the route.
The itinerary can be shaped around personal interests and may include stops at the city’s holiday markets. Options range from the traditional German-style market in Roppongi to Tokyo’s largest market at Meiji Jingu Gaien, as well as the charming seasonal fair at Azabudai Hills.
Festive Dining, Tokyo Style
The hotel’s restaurants offer no shortage of reasons to linger. At Grand Kitchen, the all-day dining restaurant, a large see-through fireplace lends a cozy, residential feel on chilly evenings, while a wine list of more than 550 award-winning selections is sure to delight oenophiles.
Those seeking Michelin-starred cuisine can head to Esterre by Alain Ducasse, where contemporary French cooking highlights the natural flavors of Japan’s terroir. Japanese dining options include kaiseki at Wadakura, teppanyaki at GO, and tempura at Tatsumi.
Special Christmas lunch and dinner menus will be served from December 19 to 25. Esterre plans to feature blue lobster, wagyu filet, and foie gras Rossini, while Wadakura will spotlight matsuba, kobako, and king crab. Grand Kitchen’s family friendly menu offers traditional roast beef, seared scallop, and an ice cream style Bûche de Noël.
A Sweet Finish at Sweets & Deli
Travelers who miss the European baked goods of the season will find plenty to love at Sweets & Deli. The pastry shop turns out home baked stollen, kouglof, berawecka, and panettone, several with distinctly Japanese flavors. Standouts include the Bohnen Stollen, made with yuzu flavored marzipan and kinako (roasted soybean flour), and the Kouglof de Noël, which folds sweet chestnuts into a matcha dough and finishes it with a raspberry chocolate glaze. The pastry team’s much loved Christmas cakes are also available in limited quantities, and advance orders are required.
