Central Vietnam solidifies its reputation as a top golf destination in Asia with the news that Luke Donald will continue as European Ryder Cup Captain.

Donald, known for his design of Ba Na Hills Golf Club near Danang, the region’s largest city, was confirmed last week as Team Europe’s skipper for the 2025 edition to be held at Bethpage Black in New York.

The 45-year-old led his team to a victory in Rome in October, reclaiming the title from the US. He will now be Europe’s first repeat captain since Bernard Gallacher led the team in three consecutive tournaments between 1991 and 1995.

Donald expressed his ambition to leave a lasting legacy as his retention was announced.

“The Ryder Cup experience for me in 2023 was amazing,” Donald said. “I really enjoyed the journey. To possibly go back-to-back as only the second European Ryder Cup captain is very interesting and exciting. I love what the Ryder Cup represents. I’ve had many amazing experiences as a player and captain, and being given the honor to go back-to-back is special to me.”

Donald’s continued role as Team Europe captain reflects the high regard he holds in the wider golf community. His rising reputation mirrors the quality of courses in Central Vietnam, boasting world-class layouts designed by renowned names in the game.

“Luke’s success as a Ryder Cup captain is a source of pride for us,” said Gary Dixon, general manager of Ba Na Hills Golf Club, a key player in the VGC, a newly revamped destination marketing organization highlighting the region’s premier golf courses. “The course here at Ba Na Hills Golf Club reflects his strategic planning skills and is just one of the highlights for golfers in this part of Asia.”

Donald’s design at Ba Na Hills Golf Club winds through rolling foothills against the backdrop of Central Vietnam’s dramatic peaks. Other notable courses include Laguna Golf Lang Co, designed by Sir Nick Faldo, as well as layouts by Greg Norman, Colin Montgomerie, Robert Trent Jones Jr., and Jack Nicklaus.

“There are few places on earth with such an impressive collection of exceptional golf courses designed by renowned figures in the sport,” said Stephen Banks, Director of Golf at Laguna Golf Lang Co.
