Singapore’s Marina Bay waterfront is poised for a new chapter in luxury travel. On a glittering evening in the city, Las Vegas Sands broke ground on an ambitious US$8 billion resort and entertainment destination that is set to transform the skyline and redefine high-end hospitality in Asia. The project underscores the company’s long-term commitment to Singapore while expanding its regional influence in the global luxury market.
The groundbreaking was attended by Singapore’s Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu, along with Las Vegas Sands co-founder Dr Miriam Adelson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Goldstein, and President and Chief Operating Officer Patrick Dumont.
Goldstein paid tribute to the company’s late founder Sheldon G Adelson, who opened Marina Bay Sands in 2010 with the ambition to reshape Singapore’s tourism landscape. He called the integrated resort the most successful in the world and promised that the new development would set an even higher standard for luxury, sophistication, and guest experience.
The upcoming resort will introduce a 55-storey hotel tower containing 570 suites, each with a private terrace and garden. The property will include curated retail boutiques, fine dining restaurants, gaming experiences, a holistic spa, and nearly 200,000 square feet of premium meeting space. At its summit will be the Skyloop, a 76,000 square foot rooftop destination that blends public attractions such as gardens, restaurants, and an observatory with secluded guest-only spaces featuring infinity-edge pools, private cabanas, and a wellness terrace designed for sunrise yoga and intimate cultural events.
Architecture will once again be led by Safdie Architects, the creative force behind Marina Bay Sands’ iconic silhouette. The new tower will be rotated to maximise views of both Marina Bay and the Singapore Strait, with twin wings curving skyward in an elegant gesture inspired by the city’s lush urban greenery. Throughout the building, biophilic design will merge nature and modernity, integrating green spaces that enhance both beauty and sustainability.
At the heart of the resort’s podium will be a 15,000-seat arena designed by global design firm Populous, renowned for creating world-famous entertainment venues including the O2 Arena in London and the Sphere in Las Vegas. This new venue will attract top-tier concerts and live performances from around the world and will connect seamlessly with Singapore’s existing Marina Bay precinct through covered walkways and direct MRT access.
The groundbreaking evening reflected the glamour and prestige of the project’s vision. Over 220 guests enjoyed performances by Singaporean singer-songwriter Jasmine Sokko and Canadian artist Henry Lau, along with a gastronomic showcase from Marina Bay Sands’ signature restaurants and a preview of dishes from the forthcoming Cantonese fine dining restaurant Jin Ting Wan. As night fell, the entire Marina Bay Sands complex glowed in a golden illumination, casting a spectacular reflection over the waters.
In celebration of Singapore’s SG60 milestone, Marina Bay Sands premiered “Nothing Comes by Chance,” a cinematic tribute by local director Kirsten Tan. The film, featuring well-known Singaporean talents across arts, sports, and entertainment, explored themes of resilience, ambition, and reinvention, mirroring both the nation’s and the resort’s journeys.
Sustainability will be central to the new resort’s design and operations. Energy-efficient features will include a self-shading façade, high-performance glazing, and canopied outdoor dining areas. Native Southeast Asian tree species will be incorporated throughout the property to create a sense of place. Construction will prioritise low-carbon concrete, recycled steel, and a waste management plan designed to divert at least 75 percent of materials from landfills.
Since its opening, Marina Bay Sands has become an enduring symbol of Singapore’s rise as a luxury travel destination, hosting millions of guests and thousands of international events each year. With the launch of this new development, Las Vegas Sands is preparing to write the next chapter in the city’s evolution, delivering an experience that blends architecture, culture, entertainment, and sustainability at the highest level of refinement.
