Anyma, the solo project of Matteo Milleri from the acclaimed duo Tale of Us, has carved out a distinctive space in electronic music by fusing melodic techno with immersive audiovisual storytelling. Known for pushing creative boundaries, Anyma’s performances blend innovative sound design with cutting-edge AI-driven visuals, creating a multisensory experience that explores themes of consciousness, technology, and identity.
His breakthrough at Tomorrowland came in 2023 during Weekend 1 on the Freedom Stage, where he debuted his GENESYS concept—a multimedia exploration that combines towering LED visuals and symbolic characters to narrate a futuristic story. This set was marked by a dramatic guest appearance from Grimes during their collaboration “Welcome to the Opera,” where she levitated above the crowd, perfectly synchronized with the show’s visual elements. Tracks like “Eternity,” “Samsara” with Sevdaliza, and “The First Breath” featured prominently, many of which were unreleased at the time. Critics and fans alike hailed the performance as “mindblowing” and among the best of the weekend, cementing Anyma’s reputation as a visionary artist who bridges music and immersive storytelling.
In 2024, Anyma transitioned to the Tomorrowland Mainstage for Weekend 1, confronting new challenges due to the more limited visual setup. Despite the absence of his signature elaborate visuals, he delivered a high-energy, mashup-heavy set, opening with “The End of Genesys” and weaving together tracks like “Eternity vs Proper Education,” his remix of Fred again.. and Swedish House Mafia’s “Turn On The Lights Again..,” and John Summit’s “Shiver.” This performance demonstrated his musical prowess, proving he was more than a “visual DJ” and capable of commanding the Mainstage purely through sound.
Returning later that same year to the Freedom Stage for Weekend 2, Anyma presented a fully realized Afterlife-inspired show, reinstating his immersive visual narrative. The set introduced several new collaborations, including “Exodus” with Adam Sellouk, “Sacrifice” with PARISI, and a remix of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s “Deadly Valentine.” Fans praised the return to the Freedom Stage as a full-circle moment where Anyma could once again fully express the evolving GENESYS project in both sonic and visual dimensions.
At Tomorrowland 2025 in Belgium, Anyma took the Mainstage spotlight during Weekend 1, performing on a newly rebuilt stage following a devastating fire just days before the festival. Undeterred by the setback, he opened his set with a fresh remix of Shakedown’s 2000 classic “At Night,” setting an energetic and captivating tone. Throughout the performance, Anyma unveiled a host of unreleased tracks, including collaborations with Adriatique & Argy (“Racer”), TH;EN & SLVR (“Gangs”), and his own “Higher ID.” One of the most poignant moments came during “Syren,” a collaboration with Rebūke, where Anyma visibly connected with the music’s emotional intensity, creating a profound bond with the crowd.
He closed the set with a surprising and respectful remix of Tiësto’s iconic track “Traffic,” highlighting his versatility and paying homage to an influential figure in electronic music who has supported his work. This 2025 performance emphasized that Anyma’s artistry transcends the visual spectacle for which he is often celebrated, underscoring his growth as a deeply emotional and innovative musician.
Across these performances, Anyma has demonstrated exceptional versatility, balancing the grand visual narratives of the Freedom Stage with the stripped-back, music-first energy of the Mainstage. His journey reflects a continual evolution, where technological innovation, collaboration, and emotional storytelling combine to push the boundaries of live electronic music and redefine the festival experience.
