Back in 1969, Yves Piaget unveiled the iconic “21st Century Collection,” featuring extravagant jewelry watches adorned with ornamental stones on their dials, as well as engraved gold sautoirs and cuff watches. This collection marked the birth of Piaget’s signature style, characterized by its festive, elegant, and unique designs. The Maison’s DNA of experimentation, innovation, and joy led them to incorporate unexpected materials like coral, turquoise, and lapis lazuli into their watches and jewelry pieces since the 1960s, as remarked by Benjamin Comar, Piaget’s CEO. This bold approach of using unusual materials still lies at the heart of their identity.

Fast forward to 2023, the “21st Century Collection” comes alive in the form of “Metaphoria,” a dazzling homage to nature and its metamorphoses. Divided into two chapters, Azureia and Beautanica, this collection includes 41 pieces of jewelry and 11 watches, all inspired by vibrant, radiant aspects of nature. With unwavering dedication to craftsmanship, all these pieces are meticulously created in Piaget’s Geneva atelier, where a team of skilled artisans masterfully bring the designs to life. The collection is elevated further by the use of exquisite gemstones, giving Metaphoria a distinctive spirit and sophisticated flair.

Piaget’s creative vision goes beyond a mere figurative interpretation of nature, as the Maison carefully selects the most emblematic elements of the natural world, such as the dynamic energy of oceans, mountains, and forests. Stéphanie Sivrière, the creative director at Piaget, explains that the goal was to highlight details reminiscent of natural phenomena, evoking emotions while introducing unpredictability and vitality with unexpected materials like insect elytra and precious wood.

Among the standout pieces of the Metaphoria collection is the Mineralis set, featuring jewelry that exudes the essence of a mountain river’s rushing waters. A stunning asymmetrical necklace, adorned with diamonds, sapphires, aquamarine, and rock crystal, captures the play of light and transparency found along river edges. Complementing this unique necklace are matching earrings and rings, each with its own brilliant gemstone centerpiece.

The Aqua Summa set exemplifies extraordinary elegance, portraying the essence of frost and ice with a captivating pairing of aquamarine, Akoya pearls, and diamonds. The articulated collar necklace showcases pear-shaped aquamarines of deep cerulean hues, while the cocktail ring and earrings, adorned with shimmering diamonds, complete this mesmerizing set.

Essentia, known for its natural lines, showcases goldsmithery at the heart of the collection, featuring rose-gold and diamond jewelry. The curb necklace, an iconic piece in this parure, features oversized links reminiscent of driftwood found on a beach, accompanied by matching earrings and a wristwatch.

The Alata set transforms leaves into gold, mother-of-pearl, and diamonds, resulting in rich, unstructured pieces that include a necklace, earrings, and a watch. The remarkable earcuff, engraved with the Decor Palace motif, embellished with gold leaves, mother-of-pearl, white gold flecks, and diamonds, adorns the ear with a breathtaking piece of artistry. The statement ring, featuring a 2.23-carat pear-shaped diamond at its center, and the magnificent cuff watch, adorned with a marquetry of mother-of-pearl and engraved gold blended with marquise-cut diamonds, both demonstrate Piaget’s mastery over intricate details.
