Founded by Masaki Matsukawa and designer Kohei Okamoto in Kyoto in 2013, the brand debuted its first collection at the prestigious Pitti Uomo fashion fair in Florence, Italy. The brand has since presented its new collections at Pitti Uomo every season.

In 2016, the brand received recognition with the Bronze award at the International A Dash Design Award in Italy and the Good Design Award in Japan. The following year, it received the iF Design Award in Germany. As the brand rapidly expands, it has opened itself to the American and European markets since spring 2016 and has formed partnerships with prominent designers and artists such as Shantell Martin, David James (Artistic Director of Prada), Emmanuelle Vernoux, Benoit Pierre Emery, and Nicolas Ouchenir.

Since its inception, DUREN has utilized only original Japanese materials. The cowhide leather used is sliced to the thinnest possible thickness of 0.5mm and treated with aluminum foil and tricot fabric, resulting in shape-memory leather that resembles crumpled paper. This unique material displays unique wrinkles and aging, making it suitable for any occasion. DUREN provides the freedom to personalize and express individual style.
