Melco Resorts & Entertainment, a global leading operator of integrated resorts, has officially announced the upcoming launch of its new luxury hotel project REM at City of Dreams Macau, with a soft opening and grand launch planned for the second half of 2026.
The all suite property will replace the former Countdown Hotel, which had closed since 2021 after previously operating as the Hard Rock Hotel Macau. Melco has said the redevelopment will cost about US$125 million and will convert 330 standard rooms into roughly 150 high end suites, each averaging more than 1,000 square feet.
Melco described REM as redefining contemporary luxury through its ultimate suite experience, avant garde artistic design and innovative service, calling it the start of an unprecedented journey of inspiration that further strengthens City of Dreams’ position as an integrated resort. The company added that City of Dreams is far more than an integrated resort, but also a dream engine that continuously sparks imagination and ignites inspiration.
Once open, REM will join City of Dreams’ existing hotel lineup of Nüwa, Grand Hyatt Macau and Morpheus, rounding out the resort’s portfolio with a fourth distinctive brand. The hotel will also carry a casino, retail, events and other entertainment options.
The project marks a long awaited transformation for the tower, which was temporarily rebranded as Countdown Hotel in 2017 before closing in 2021, with an earlier all suite concept under the name Libertine ultimately shelved. The REM timeline also aligns with Melco’s broader repositioning strategy for City of Dreams, which recently launched its Be A Dreamer campaign fronted by actor Jing Boran as global brand ambassador and Tan Yuanyuan as friend of the brand.
The move also reflects a wider trend among Macau operators such as Sands China and MGM China Holdings, which have similarly been enhancing room inventories by replacing standard rooms with larger, more luxurious suites to capture premium demand.
