Mortal Kombat took over New York Comic Con 2025 with a vengeance. The crowd at the Javits Center got an explosive first look at Mortal Kombat II, and the hype hit critical levels the moment Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema dropped a new behind-the-scenes featurette. The footage teased massive battles, next-level choreography, and a darker, grittier tone that pushed the franchise into full-on blockbuster territory.

The loudest cheers came when Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage unleashed his iconic “Nutcracker punch,” a perfect throwback to one of the game’s most infamous moves. Fans were instantly hooked, phones up, losing it over the precision of the move and the slickness of the new visuals.

The panel gave fans plenty more to scream about. Adeline Rudolph’s Kitana was introduced as the emotional core of the sequel, while Tati Gabrielle’s Jade made her debut as a serious power player. Scorpion and Noob Saibot are back, and the shadow of Shao Kahn looms large, setting the stage for a brutal clash for Earthrealm. The creative team hinted at a heavier focus on the female warriors this time around, promising more depth and spotlight than ever before.

Then came the mic-drop moment: Mortal Kombat III is officially in development. Writer Jeremy Slater is returning to script the next chapter, a clear signal that the studio is betting big on this universe. The crowd went off.

The film’s release date was also confirmed for May 15, 2026, with a full IMAX rollout locked in. Everything about the presentation screamed “bigger, bloodier, bolder.”

Fans at the panel were buzzing long after it ended, trading theories, showing off exclusive NYCC art prints, and posting clips across social media before the lights even came up. Between the iconic callbacks, the reveal of new fighters, and the confident tease of what’s next, Mortal Kombat II didn’t just win the weekend — it straight-up owned Comic Con.
