In September, visitors to Jewel Changi Airport (referred to as Jewel) will have the opportunity to embark on a visual journey through the rich tapestry of Singapore. This multifaceted lifestyle destination is set to showcase a stunning collection of 10 floral displays, each a botanical tribute to the story of Singapore, created by the talented florists of the region. “Jewel Blooms: Splendours of Singapore” marks Jewel’s inaugural event dedicated to the captivating world of plants and flowers, offering a vibrant platform to nurture creativity and foster connections within the local community through the medium of flowers. People of all ages who have a fondness for botany can revel in the beauty of these captivating blooms and partake in a series of floral-themed activities, including workshops and marketplace events, scheduled throughout the floral festival taking place from September 1st to 10th, 2023. A noteworthy addition to this year’s festivities is the Youth Floral Cup, a floral design competition specially designed for aspiring florists aged between seven and twelve.

A sensory delight awaits as creativity unfolds through these blossoming displays. Jewel is placing local florists in the spotlight, showcasing original floral installations crafted by renowned floral designers like Anson Low (AIFD, CFD), Christopher Lim (AFID, CFD, Riji), Damien Koh (PFCI, AIFD, CFD), and more. These exhibitions, each measuring 1.5 meters in both width and height, draw inspiration from various facets of Singapore, including its history, culture, cuisine, and national flower. You can find these artistic creations on display at the Shiseido Forest Valley and Canopy Park.

Anson Low, for instance, has designed a floral display inspired by his interpretation of the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. With a color palette mirroring nature and water, featuring blues, whites, and greens, and incorporating flowers such as orchids, larkspur, flamingo lilies, and sea hollies, this reimagining promises to be a visually stunning representation of the HSBC Rain Vortex.

Furthermore, there will be three special displays crafted by a group of Year 1 students from ITE College Central, known as Nitecin Floristry. Among these displays is a wearable art piece that seamlessly blends fashion and nature, drawing inspiration from elegant flowers, orchids, and the iconic geometric pattern of Jewel’s façade.

The Youth Floral Cup, aimed at nurturing the next generation of florists in the community, is a junior floral competition open to primary school students. It comprises two categories: Category A for students in Primary 1 to 3 and Category B for those in Primary 4 to 6. Young contestants will have one hour to construct a floral display using a surprise box of fresh flowers and foliage provided. Following the competition, all completed artworks will be exhibited at Level 1 (near Luke’s Lobster) from September 2nd to 7th, with winners being honored at an awards presentation ceremony on September 2nd.

For plant enthusiasts looking to enhance their green spaces or anyone curious about gardening, this event offers a fantastic opportunity to get started. Activities range from a plant swap and a flea market selling a variety of plants, flowers, and horticultural tools to a series of free talks and workshops.

Join fellow plant enthusiasts at the Plant Swap, where participants can exchange and discover new additions to their personal plant collections. Afterward, visit the Jewel Blooms Marketplace at the Basement 1 Atrium, where twelve stalls run by local artisans, plant nurseries, and eco-friendly vendors offer a wide selection of new plants and tools. Additionally, there’s a lineup of talks and workshops featuring experts sharing insights on cultivating leafy greens and creating flower arrangements at home, providing inspiration for budding florists.
