YouTube is giving creators a new way to reach global audiences with its multi-language audio dubbing feature, now available to all users after a two-year pilot program. The rollout promises to streamline the process of making videos accessible in multiple languages, leveraging AI to maintain the original creator’s tone and style.

How the Multi-Language Audio Feature Works

Creators can now upload additional audio tracks in different languages directly through YouTube Studio. There are two main options:

  1. Manual Upload: Record and upload each language track separately. Ideal for creators who want precise control over voice, inflection, and cultural nuances.
  2. AI-Powered Dubbing: YouTube uses Google’s Gemini AI technology to automatically generate dubbed tracks. The AI attempts to replicate the original voice’s tone, pace, and emotion, providing a faster route for creators with large catalogs.

Once tracks are uploaded, viewers can select their preferred language from the video player’s language options, making videos more accessible and potentially increasing watch time from international audiences.

Early adopters of the feature, including MrBeast and Jamie Oliver, have reported that adding multi-language audio tracks significantly boosts engagement. On average, creators saw 25% of watch time coming from non-primary languages, demonstrating the potential to expand global reach without creating entirely separate video uploads.

In addition, YouTube is testing multi-language thumbnails, allowing creators to upload different thumbnails tailored to each language version of their video. This can further enhance engagement by offering culturally relevant visuals that appeal to specific regions.

Step-by-Step Guide for Creators

  1. Access the Feature: Go to YouTube Studio → Content → Select Video → “Add Language” under the Audio & Subtitles tab.
  2. Choose Your Method: Either upload pre-recorded audio tracks or use YouTube’s AI dubbing tool.
  3. Preview and Adjust: AI-generated tracks can be previewed and adjusted for accuracy in tone or pronunciation before publishing.
  4. Publish and Monitor: Once published, check analytics for audience engagement and watch-time growth across different languages.

This feature signals YouTube’s growing focus on international audiences and creator support. By reducing the technical barrier for dubbing, creators can expand their reach while maintaining their brand voice across multiple markets. As AI dubbing continues to improve, this could redefine how content is localized for global consumption.
