Tivoli Hotels & Resorts has unveiled its newest address, and this one comes with a storyline worthy of the city it calls home. The Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce Hotel has officially opened its doors, marking the brand’s debut in Puglia and its fourth outpost in Italy overall. Set inside a lovingly restored nineteenth century palazzo in the historic center of Lecce, the property brings 48 rooms and suites, a rooftop with sweeping views, a serious dining program, and a wellness retreat to a city that has long deserved this kind of spotlight.
The hotel sits on Via Imperatore Augusto, tucked between Piazza Sant’Oronzo and Piazzetta Santa Chiara, placing guests just steps from the honeyed stone facades that have earned Lecce its nickname, the Florence of the South. Wander in any direction and the city’s Baroque flourishes unfold in golden Pietra Leccese, from the Roman Amphitheatre to the Basilica di Santa Croce to Lecce Cathedral, all within easy walking distance.
The building itself has quite a past. Originally a fifteenth century inn, it was reimagined as an aristocratic hotel in 1880, and that layered history now informs every corner of the design. Among the 48 accommodations are 13 suites, ranging from Superior and Deluxe rooms to Premium categories with balconies or views. For travelers wanting a bit more drama, there are Junior Suites, suites with private jacuzzis or spas, and a Presidential Suite with its own outdoor terrace overlooking the Roman Amphitheater.
Food and drink take center stage across three venues. Godot Restaurant, named for Samuel Beckett’s famous play about anticipation and longing, is billed as the place where the long awaited dinner or encounter finally happens, served up in interiors that feel contemporary and refined. Expect Mediterranean cooking built around handmade pastas, seafood, and produce sourced close to home, alongside a well chosen list of Italian wines. Up top, the Rooftop Terrace and Lounge Bar delivers golden hour views toward the cathedral’s bell tower, with room for 100 guests standing or 40 seated, open nightly from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Lobby Bar rounds out the offerings for guests who prefer a quieter pour.
Downstairs, a wellness area invites slower mornings and easy afternoons, with two treatment rooms, an indoor heated saltwater pool, a steam room, a sauna, and a relaxation lounge complete with a tisaneria for herbal tea. A fully equipped gym opens directly onto the rooftop, blurring the line between indoor workout and open air escape.
Beyond the hotel’s walls, guests get privileged entry to a curated lineup of beach clubs on both the Adriatic and Ionian coasts, along with access to a nearby swimming pool roughly 2.5 miles away that offers reserved space and dedicated service. The nearest beaches, including San Cataldo, Torre dell’Orso, Porto Cesareo, and Gallipoli, are all about 15 to 20 minutes away by car. The hotel stays open year round and can also host meetings and private events, with two intimate spaces that flex to accommodate up to roughly 40 guests.
Getting there is simple too. Lecce’s train station is about 0.6 miles from the property, Brindisi Papola Casale Airport is roughly 30 to 35 minutes away by car, and Bari Karol Wojtyla International Airport is about a two hour drive.
The opening adds to Tivoli’s growing Italian footprint, joining Tivoli Portopiccolo Sistiana Wellness Resort and Spa, Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi Firenze, and Tivoli President Milano Hotel. It is the latest expression of a brand whose roots trace back to 1933 in Lisbon, Portugal, and whose calling card has always been a genuine, place rooted sense of luxury. With this opening, that philosophy has found a striking new home among the sun bleached stone and quiet piazzas of Salento.
