Netflix just leveled up its global footprint with the official launch of Netflix Animation Studios (NAS) in Vancouver. The scene was set with opening remarks from the Honourable Brenda Bailey, B.C.’s Minister of Finance, followed by a heavy hitting ribbon cutting ceremony. Industry titans like Netflix Chairman of Film Dan Lin and Head of Feature Animation Hannah Minghella stood alongside B.C. Minister Anne Kang and Deputy Mayor Sarah Kirby Yung to mark the monumental expansion.

Hannah Minghella described the hub as a major investment in the long term growth of the studio. She noted that the space reflects a deep commitment to delivering original animated movies for fans on a global stage.
The specs on this new facility are massive. Spanning 110,600 square feet, the studio is a high tech playground built for maximum creative output and high quality production value. Over 450 experts are already making moves in the space. The construction alone injected over 50 million dollars into the B.C. economy, and the ongoing operations are projected to pump 100 million dollars into the province’s GDP every single year. To make the ecosystem even more powerful, the Eyeline VFX team will be joining the roster soon to create a fully integrated animation and visual effects powerhouse.
Amir Nasrabadi, Chief Operating Officer of NAS, expressed massive hype for the upcoming feature film Steps. The project is a fresh reimagining of the Cinderella story featuring a stacked voice cast including Ali Wong, Stephanie Hsu, and Amanda Seyfried. Nasrabadi highlighted that Vancouver is home to world class talent and the studio is proud to have them on the team.
The Vancouver squad is already legendary for global hits like Leo, which dominated the top spots in 62 countries, and Thelma the Unicorn, which charted in 72 countries. British Columbia continues to be a premier backdrop for the Netflix catalog. Major productions like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Virgin River have already generated hundreds of millions in economic value for the region. With new titles like TIME OUT and Crew Girl in the pipeline, the Netflix presence in Canada has never looked stronger. This opening marks a defining milestone for the brand as it continues to produce world class content from its new Canadian home.
