Apple introduced the MacBook Neo on Wednesday, a new laptop designed to make the Mac experience more accessible without losing the core elements people expect from Apple hardware. Starting at $599, the device aims to lower the barrier to entry for macOS while still delivering the design, performance, and ecosystem integration that define the Mac lineup.
At its core, MacBook Neo is about bringing modern Apple silicon performance and a refined hardware design into a more approachable price tier. The laptop pairs a colorful aluminum chassis with a 13 inch Liquid Retina display and the A18 Pro chip, giving everyday users a machine that can comfortably handle web browsing, media streaming, document creation, photo editing, and emerging AI powered features.
Apple says MacBook Neo is up to 50 percent faster for everyday tasks like web browsing compared with the bestselling PC running the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. For more intensive workloads, especially on device AI processing such as applying advanced photo effects, the system can be up to three times faster.
The hardware itself sticks closely to Apple’s familiar design language but introduces a more playful palette. MacBook Neo features a durable aluminum enclosure available in blush, indigo, silver, and a new citrus color. The machine weighs 2.7 pounds, making it light enough to slip into a backpack or handbag without much thought.
The 13 inch Liquid Retina display delivers a resolution of 2408 by 1506, brightness up to 500 nits, and support for one billion colors. In practical terms, that means sharper text, brighter photos, and a screen that holds up well whether you are watching video, editing images, or joining a video call. Apple also includes an anti reflective coating designed to make the display easier to view under different lighting conditions.
Inside, the A18 Pro chip handles both traditional computing tasks and newer AI driven features that are becoming more common across apps. The chip includes a five core GPU for graphics performance and a 16 core Neural Engine designed to accelerate on device intelligence features while keeping user data processed locally. The system is fanless, which means it runs silently even when handling heavier workloads.
Battery life is another area Apple is emphasizing. Thanks to the efficiency of Apple silicon, MacBook Neo can deliver up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. That puts it comfortably in all day territory for school, work, or travel.
The input experience remains familiar for Mac users. MacBook Neo includes Apple’s Magic Keyboard for comfortable typing and a large Multi Touch trackpad that supports gestures like scrolling, swiping, and pinch to zoom. Models equipped with Touch ID allow users to unlock the laptop, sign into apps, and authorize Apple Pay purchases quickly and securely.
For communication and media, MacBook Neo includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with improved image processing for clearer video calls. Dual microphones use directional beamforming to help isolate a user’s voice while reducing background noise. Dual side firing speakers support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos, creating a more immersive soundstage for music, movies, and creative apps like GarageBand.
Connectivity stays simple but practical. The laptop includes two USB C ports that support charging, accessories, and external displays, along with a headphone jack for wired audio. Wireless connectivity is handled through Wi Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.
Software plays a big role in the overall experience. MacBook Neo runs macOS Tahoe, which includes built in apps such as Safari, Photos, Messages, and FaceTime. Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Live Translation are integrated across the operating system, helping automate tasks like editing text, summarizing notes, and translating conversations in real time.
The laptop also benefits from Apple’s broader ecosystem. Continuity features make it easy to move between Mac and iPhone. Handoff lets users start a task on MacBook Neo and continue it on their iPhone, while Universal Clipboard allows copy and paste between devices. iPhone Mirroring brings the phone’s interface directly onto the Mac screen, and new Mac users can transfer files, photos, passwords, and settings from an iPhone during setup.
Apple also framed MacBook Neo as a step forward in its environmental goals. The laptop uses 60 percent recycled materials overall, including 90 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. The enclosure is manufactured using a material efficient forming process that reduces aluminum usage by about 50 percent compared with traditional machining.

Across Apple’s supply chain, MacBook Neo is produced using 45 percent renewable electricity, including wind and solar energy. The packaging is entirely fiber based and designed to be easily recyclable.
MacBook Neo starts at $599 in the United States, with an education price of $499. It is available in blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. Preorders open today, and the laptop will begin shipping on March 11.
For Apple, MacBook Neo represents a familiar strategy with a new twist. By pairing Apple silicon performance with a lower starting price, the company is positioning the Mac as a more approachable entry point for students, first time Mac users, and anyone looking for a capable everyday laptop without stepping into premium territory.
