Hoshino Resorts Kasuke Tiantai debuts in Tiantai Mountain

Hoshino Resorts, a hotel management company that operates over 40 properties within and outside of Japan, will open “Hoshino Resorts KASUKE Tiantai” on April 27th, 2021 in Tiantai Mountain, Zhejiang Province of China. This is the first property in mainland China to be operated by Hoshino Resorts.

Tiantai Mountain is known as the birthplace of the Tendai sect and Taoism with beautiful mountains and water.  Temples are scattered around the valleys of the peaks at an altitude of around 1,200 meters, and one of them, the Guoqing Temple, is the birthplace of the Chinese Tendai sect, where it has been attracting those of the Buddhism faith since a long ago. Dengyo Daishi Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect in Japan, entered Tiantai Mountain in the Heian period to study Tendai teachings at Guoqing Temple and later opened the Tendai sect in Japan at Enryaku Temple located in the Hiei Mountain. Since then, many Japanese monks have visited Tiantai Mountain, it is a place that has been in connection with Japan for a long time.

Located in one of China’s popular tourist destinations as the birthplace of the Tendai sect, the guest rooms feature views of the mountains and gardens. The resort consists of 103 guest rooms, a dining room, swimming pool, gym, spa and library lounge. The concept of the guest rooms is Rokonseijyo, which is part of Zen Buddhism.  Dengyo Daishi Saicho, the founder of the Tendai sect in Japan, studied Tendai teachings at the Tiantai Mountains. The room is created in a way that makes one feel free and relax by having large windows that frame the view, traditional Chinese furniture and decorations, and warm lighting.

Dining consists of three areas: breakfast, dinner and private rooms.  Dining concept is incorporating the essences of traditional Chinese and Japanese.  For breakfast, a buffet of drinks and fruits in addition to the main breakfast set of either Japanese, Western or Chinese can be enjoyed. Dinner will be a la carte style. Many chefs gathered to Zhejiang Province because it was the capital back in the Song dynasty. In addition, the area is blessed with ingredients such as seafood from the East China Sea and a wide variety of vegetables from inland, which led to the development of unique food culture.  There will be a menu of Japanese dishes including Zhejiang’s local dishes.

There are many scenic areas to visit such as the Taizhou Shiliang Waterfall, Huading National Forest Park, and the Qiongtai Valley.  Moreover, it is famous for the 1,000 different kinds of Chinese herbs that grow at high altitudes, such as high mountain Yunwu tea, and citrus fruits.
