In a grand reveal at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals held in Barcelona, Spain, Genesis has introduced the X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept. Unveiled as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series, this concept car is set to make its virtual racing debut in the game starting January 2024.
Embodying the essence of the Genesis brand’s Athletic Elegance design philosophy, the 2024 X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept is a visual representation of the brand’s passion and dedication to the Vision Gran Turismo series. Its design language showcases a pure and muscular aesthetic, emphasizing volumes centered around the wheels. The cab-backwards proportions, coupled with Genesis’ distinctive anti-wedge attitude, adhere to a virtual parabolical tensioned theory consistent with the Genesis model line-up.
The design of the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept maximizes the dash-to-axle ratio, featuring a lean mid-engine layout that moves the driver and powertrain rearward. Genesis Senior Chief Designer, John Krsteski, expressed the team’s goal of creating a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport, serving as inspiration for future programs.
The concept sports a new front fascia, abstracting the Crest Grille and linking it with the Quad Lights, creating a cohesive structure that connects the front and rear. The Magma color, inspired by Korea’s volcanoes and cultural vibrancy, adds an energetic theme to the concept.
Focusing on high performance, Genesis designers achieved an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.34 through careful aerodynamic considerations. The interior reflects Genesis’ Beauty of White Space attitude, prioritizing essential functions for the pilot’s focus on the race track.
Under the hood, the X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept is powered by a front mid-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine, electrically assisted by Genesis E-SC technology. The hybrid race-spec drivetrain delivers an impressive total of 1071hp and 986 lb-ft of torque.
Gran Turismo 7 players eager to experience the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta VGT Concept can receive early access as a gift in January 2024. By watching the Manufacturer’s Cup broadcast in GT7, starting from 19:00 CET on December 2nd, players will have the opportunity to have the concept car delivered directly to their virtual garage in the January update.
