Yang Rou Chuan (meat skewers), a Chinese dish originated from the north-western province Xinjiang and is the quintessential Beijing favorite.  The flavorful dish contains small pieces of meat (nestled between pieces of fat), grilled over charcoal, and coated with a mixture of cumin and chili powder.

At Gui BBQ Restaurant & Bar in Irvine, you will find an extensive menu of Beijing-style street food.  The food here is mainly the Xinjiang style grill, though they offer other dishes too such as noodles and hot pot.  When ordered, the skewers are brought to your table fully cooked.  The grill is provided to keep the food warm.  Besides the meat skewers, they had a wide array of options including scallops, shrimp, and vegetables.  The stars of the show are premium lamb belly and beef tongue.

In addition to their signature Xinjiang grilled items, I recommend to try the Fried Crab Typhoon Shelter at Gui BBQ.  Fried Crab Typhoon Shelter is an iconic Hong Kong local cuisine that has attracted many travelers including Anthony Bourdain.  The dish was also featured in his show “No Reservation.”
