When orchestral majesty collides with the pulsating heart of electronic dance music, something extraordinary happens. That something is Symphony of Unity, Tomorrowland’s spellbinding fusion of classical music and EDM, which returned to the Freedom Stage in 2025 with unparalleled force.
Held across both weekends in July, Symphony of Unity captivated thousands with live performances that transcended genre boundaries. As the festival grounds in Boom, Belgium roared with energy, a full orchestra took center stage and reimagined some of the most iconic dance tracks with sweeping strings, thunderous brass and a rhythm section that pulsed like a heartbeat.
The Freedom Stage, already known for its immersive design, underwent a breathtaking transformation this year. Towering LED screens stretched 300 square meters across the structure while 210 video panels danced in sync with the music. Suspended above the audience, a kinetic ceiling called the “Floating Sky” shimmered and shifted with light, giving the space a cosmic cathedral like atmosphere. The visual production was nothing short of cinematic. Each crescendo was paired with a surge of color and movement and each bass drop became a moment of shared awe.
Conductor Kevin Houben led the ensemble with precision and passion, merging live orchestration with the festival’s pounding electronic core. It was not just a performance but a full body soul lifting experience. From the harpist’s delicate melodies to the violins soaring through reworked anthems by artists like Avicii, Swedish House Mafia and Tiësto, the arrangements brought new life to familiar songs. The audience, typically found dancing to digital beats, stood rapt then erupted in cheers as the orchestra’s swell met a thunderous synth or a deep drop.
This was not a gimmick. Symphony of Unity proved that classical music and EDM are more aligned than we might think. Both are about tension and release. Both can command silence and spark celebration. The Freedom Stage’s audio system was upgraded to support the full orchestral spectrum. Subwoofers delivered low end warmth without drowning the subtleties of the live instruments while directional speakers ensured every attendee could experience the nuances of the performance.
Symphony of Unity also branched beyond Boom. For the first time, it was performed in an intimate theater setting in Brussels on the Monday after each festival weekend. These shows, held at the Vaudeville Theatre, provided a more personal yet no less intense version of the experience. Standing room only, no air conditioning and packed to the walls, the crowd did not mind. The raw emotion of the music was enough to keep everyone moving.
Looking ahead, Symphony of Unity is releasing its debut album later this year, preserving the energy and emotion of these performances for a global audience. What started as a Tomorrowland feature has become a traveling musical statement, with future shows planned in Amsterdam, Dubai and São Paulo.
