Just a stone’s throw from Stavanger Airport and an hour’s drive from the celebrated Bolder lodges in Lysefjord, a striking new chapter in Norway’s design-led retreat scene has emerged. The Bolder Wave, a bold sculptural residence perched dramatically above the North Sea, joins the portfolio of one of the country’s most visionary hospitality brands, The Bolder.
Carved into nearly five acres of windswept coastal landscape, The Bolder Wave is as much a feat of architecture as it is a luxurious escape. Conceived by renowned Norwegian firm Jarmund / Vigsnæs Architects, the 285 square meter villa seamlessly blends into its dramatic surroundings, marrying sharp geometry with organic textures. Inside, craftsmanship reigns: a sculpted concrete kitchen by Hamran anchors the open-plan living space, while Dinesen oak floors and soaring ceilings lead the eye toward sweeping ocean views framed by vast glass doors.
The design is unapologetically tactile, minimal yet warm, grounded yet ethereal. Geothermal heating underscores the eco-conscious approach, while access to Hellestøstranden, one of Norway’s premier surf beaches, adds an adventurous edge. A repurposed historic guesthouse on the property serves as an annex, bringing total capacity to eight guests and offering privacy without sacrificing connection to the landscape.
For those drawn to nature-forward luxury and the growing trend of “coolcationing,” The Bolder Wave arrives at the perfect moment. Norway continues to attract global attention as a destination for mindful travel, with a record 38.6 million overnight stays last year, including over 12 million by international visitors seeking immersive, off-grid experiences.
With The Bolder Wave, The Bolder continues to push the boundaries of what a Nordic retreat can be: a place not just to stay, but to feel the edge of the world and lean in.
