Lusail International Circuit joined forces with Pininfarina, the distinguished Italian design and architectural firm renowned for its iconic contributions to the automobile industry. Together, they collaborated on the creation of the official trophy for the Qatar Grand Prix. The trophy for the 2023 FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX is a harmonious blend of speed, culture, and craftsmanship.

Pininfarina, drawing inspiration from the dynamism of FORMULA 1, embarked on the task of fashioning a trophy that encapsulates the essence of the recently revamped Lusail International Circuit (LIC). This endeavor unfolded through a three-month collaborative journey between Pininfarina and LIC.

Artisans with a wealth of experience in meticulously crafting wave-like patterns were enlisted for the project. These patterns pay homage to Qatar’s sand dunes and are set against a deep-purple resin plaque adorned with a geometric style reminiscent of the traditional Sadu carpet, imbuing the trophy with depth and vibrancy. A satin aluminum finish adds an air of elegance, mirroring Pininfarina’s distinctive design ethos. This fusion of elements serves as a celebration of Qatari culture and solidifies Lusail’s identity as a motorsports hub.

Leveraging state-of-the-art technologies such as laser printing, Pininfarina Segno, the bespoke design atelier of Pininfarina, infused the trophy with elements that are uniquely Qatari while upholding a contemporary aesthetic. The trophy boasts a weight of approximately 3.6 kilograms and stands at a height of 55 centimeters. While it retains some elements from the trophy featured in the Qatar GP 2021, it offers a fresh and innovative perspective on Qatar’s burgeoning motorsports culture. The trophy serves as a symbol of the juxtaposition between Qatar’s rich heritage and its modernity.

Abdulrahman bin Abdullatif Al-Mannai, President of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation and Lusail International Circuit, emphasized, “The trophy is a testament to Pininfarina’s commitment to precision and craftsmanship. It embodies our shared values, representing the pinnacle of both design and Qatar’s deep-rooted passion for racing.”

Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Group, expressed, “The trophy of Lusail wants to be a celebration of Qatar where progress moves swiftly, and natural and cultural heritage form the essence of the country. Pininfarina drew inspiration from these elements and from its legacy in the realm of performance and aerodynamics to create a trophy that stands as the new icon of the Lusail circuit. Thanks to the expertise of our highly skilled artisans, the design was transformed into a marvelous work of art.”

This exceptional trophy will be bestowed upon the champion of the 2023 FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX, set against the iconic backdrop of the Lusail International Circuit. It serves as a tribute to the fusion of speed and Qatar’s enduring legacy in the realm of motorsports within the region.
