Super Mario Galaxy Movie hit its world premiere last night at Minamiza Theater in Kyoto and the cultural moment was undeniable.
Illumination and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto linked up again off the back of a $1.3B first drop with The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023. The collab continues with directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic back behind the lens and Matthew Fogel on screenplay.
The cast is stacked. Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Benny Safdie, Donald Glover, Issa Rae, Luis Guzmán, Kevin Michael Richardson and Brie Larson. New additions signal this one’s leveling up.
Kyoto as the premiere location? A deliberate nod to Nintendo’s hometown roots. Not random. Not corporate. Intentional.
