Following a S$45-million overhaul, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, has completed its transformation into Singapore’s first ‘Garden-in-a-Hotel’.  PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay features one of Asia’s largest indoor skylit Atrium, a 21-story-tall architectural design which exudes a sense of urban grandeur, and the uninhibited originality of neo-futuristic Architect John Portman.

The hotel is home to over 2,400 plants, trees, shrubs and ground covers from more than 60 varieties of flora.  The overall landscape design seamlessly integrates the plants into the hotel internal structure, creating the distinct impression of a layered, verdant forest.

Travel Tip:  Take a stroll along the Skybridge on level 4 and experience a walk above the forest canopy, with pavilions on either side that evokes the imagery of birds’ nests ensconced in the treetops.

The hotel’s lobby is home to two larger-than-life-sized sandalwood sculptures of ancient Chinese philosophers Li Bai and Confucius. These sculptures hark back to the ’80s and are the works of Taiwan’s renowned contemporary Sculptor Ju Ming.  The soaring 13-meter-tall green wall at the lobby is a visual spectacle evocative of a traditional Chinese landscape painting, with clouds floating high above, while the forest of resplendent greenery is interspersed with monolithic shapes throughout.

One of the main centerpiece is the Orchidea, a suspended floral sculpture in the Atrium that was installed in 1986 by the famed American Wire Sculptor Richard Lippold. Some say it looks like a windfall of coins falling into cupped hands, signifying the Hotel’s prosperity.  At night, the hotel has a light show performance at the Atrium pays tribute to Richard Lippold’s suspended Orchidea sculpture and renowned architect John Portman’s Atrium built in 1986.

The light show performance, curated by Light Collab, in collaboration with Martin Professional, takes place every night at the Atrium 7, 8 and 9pm for two-and-a-half minutes.  The light display, where the Orchidea takes centerstage, features dazzling lights dance in sync with music, a dramatic interplay of light and shadow reflecting off the suspended Orchidea sculpture against the expansive indoor volume of the hotel.

PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay’s Urban Farm on level 4 contains over 60 varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers, which form the backbone of the farm-to-table concept at the Hotel’s restaurants, bars and spa.

Outside at the hotel’s skyline is a collection of spaces, which includes the COLLECTION Club Lounge, Skyline Bar, the multi-functional open space named The Green Space, which overlooks the city skyline and the Marina Bay, as well as the 25-meter mineral water pool that glows with 1,380 fiber optic lights at night.

The Green Space on level 5 is a relaxation spot where guests can bring yoga mat and engage in sunrise or sundown yoga against the backdrop of the Marina Bay, or the setting for BBQ sessions on Saturday evenings.
