Vietnamese actress Veronica Ngô (Ngô Thanh Vân) to electrify screens again with Furies prequel

Vietnamese actress Veronica Ngô, who starred in the 2019 hit film Furie, is set to return to screens with the upcoming prequel, Furies. The movie promises to deliver electrifying action to audiences once again and will be exclusively released globally on Netflix on March 23. Set in the vibrant city of Saigon during the 1990s, the film follows the story of three fierce vigilantes – Bi, Thanh, and Hong – who unite to take down Hai, the leader of a despicable crime syndicate.

In addition to its thrilling action sequences and stunning cinematography, Furies will also introduce a new generation of strong Vietnamese female action heroes to global audiences. Actress Dong Anh Quynh, who portrays Bi, revealed that the role demanded intense physical and mental training. Quynh said, “I have never undergone such intense physical training for a role in my life. Mentally, I challenged myself to empathize with Bi, an anti-hero burdened with her own struggles, to bring her character to life on screen.”

Singer Toc Tien, who takes on the role of Thanh in her second acting role, found herself relating to her character’s selfless personality. “Thanh is the eldest, always taking care of her ‘sisters’ though they are not blood siblings. Thanh protects them in silence, not with words but actions,” she explains. “I find it easy to empathize with Thanh because many of the character’s personalities are quite similar to mine.”

Rima Thanh Vy brings a contrast to Furies’ gritty atmosphere as she portrays Hong, a sweet and optimistic character, which became a deeply personal experience for her. She shares, “Hong helped me through a difficult time in my life. She gave me an abundance of love and strength to move forward and lead a more fulfilling life.”

Furies is more than just stunning visuals; it’s a story of justice and perseverance. As the film’s producer, director, and lead actor, Veronica Ngo hopes to inspire audiences. She adds, “Even if fate knocks us down to the bottom of society, we can still rise up and change our destiny.”

For Dong Anh Quynh, the film is an opportunity to showcase the quality of Vietnamese cinema to an international audience. She says, “I’m proud and excited that the film is being released worldwide on Netflix. This will allow more people to know and love the quality and entertainment value of Vietnamese storytelling.”

Nữ diễn viên Đồng Ánh Quỳnh, người đóng vai Bi, tiết lộ vai diễn yêu cầu huấn luyện thể chất và tinh thần cực kỳ khắc nghiệt. Quỳnh cho biết: “Tôi chưa từng trải qua một huấn luyện thể chất nặng như vậy cho một vai diễn trong đời. Về mặt tinh thần, tôi đã thử thách bản thân để đồng cảm với Bi, một kẻ phản diện với những lỗi lầm của riêng mình, để đưa nhân vật của cô ấy lên màn ảnh.”

Ca sĩ Tóc Tiên, người thủ vai Thanh trong vai diễn thứ hai của cô ấy, tìm thấy mình liên kết với tính cách vô tư của nhân vật. Cô nói: “Thanh là người lớn nhất, luôn chăm sóc ’em gái’ của cô ấy dù chúng không phải là anh chị em ruột. Thanh bảo vệ họ trong im lặng, không bằng lời nói mà là hành động. Tôi thấy dễ đồng cảm với Thanh vì nhiều tính cách của nhân vật tương đồng với của tôi.”
