NVIDIA and Meta Team Up to Build the AI Backbone for Billions

NVIDIA and Meta are deepening their relationship in a way that signals just how serious the AI infrastructure race has become. The two companies today announced a multiyear, multigenerational partnership spanning on premises systems, cloud deployments, and the core hardware that will underpin Meta’s next wave of AI services. In practical terms, this is about building the massive computing backbone required to train and run increasingly sophisticated AI models for billions of people, and doing it in a way that is more efficient, more scalable, and more tightly integrated than before.

At the center of the deal is Meta’s plan to construct hyperscale data centers optimized for both training and inference, the two halves of the AI equation. Training is where models learn from enormous datasets, while inference is where those models actually respond to users in real time. To power that effort, Meta will deploy NVIDIA CPUs alongside millions of NVIDIA Blackwell and Rubin GPUs, the company’s latest high performance AI chips. It will also integrate NVIDIA Spectrum X Ethernet switches into Meta’s Facebook Open Switching System platform, effectively upgrading the networking fabric that keeps these vast clusters communicating quickly and predictably. The scale matters here because Meta’s personalization and recommendation systems already serve billions of users, and future AI features will demand even more compute per interaction.

The partnership goes beyond simply buying hardware. NVIDIA and Meta are codesigning across CPUs, GPUs, networking, and software to fine tune performance for Meta’s real world workloads. That includes expanded deployment of Arm based NVIDIA Grace CPUs in Meta’s production data centers, marking the first large scale Grace only rollout. The focus is performance per watt, a metric that directly affects power consumption and operating cost. With energy demands rising alongside AI usage, squeezing more work out of each watt is not just a technical win but a practical necessity. The companies are also collaborating on NVIDIA’s upcoming Vera CPUs, with potential large scale deployment in 2027, extending Meta’s push toward a more energy efficient AI footprint while helping mature the broader Arm software ecosystem.

On the systems side, Meta plans to deploy NVIDIA GB300 based systems and build a unified architecture that stretches across its own data centers and NVIDIA Cloud Partner deployments. The goal is operational simplicity paired with performance at scale, so engineers can move workloads more seamlessly without constantly reworking infrastructure. Networking is getting similar attention. By standardizing on NVIDIA Spectrum X Ethernet across its infrastructure, Meta aims to deliver low latency, predictable performance for AI workloads while improving utilization and power efficiency. In an environment where milliseconds and megawatts both add up quickly, that kind of consistency can shape how reliably new AI features roll out to users.

Security and privacy are also part of the story. Meta has adopted NVIDIA Confidential Computing for WhatsApp private processing, enabling AI powered features within the messaging app while protecting the confidentiality and integrity of user data. The companies plan to extend confidential compute capabilities to additional services across Meta’s portfolio, an acknowledgment that as AI becomes more embedded in everyday communication, safeguards need to scale alongside capability.

Perhaps most importantly, engineering teams from both companies are working together to optimize Meta’s next generation AI models directly against NVIDIA’s full stack platform. That tight integration between model design and hardware infrastructure is intended to unlock higher performance and efficiency for features that people actually use, from smarter recommendations to more responsive AI assistants. The broader shift is clear: AI is no longer just about better algorithms, but about the infrastructure choices that determine how reliably and responsibly those algorithms show up in daily life. This partnership positions both companies to shape that foundation, with an eye on what users will experience not just tomorrow, but over the rest of the decade.
