With the announcement this week that Japan plans to open to tourists shortly (after more than two years), all eyes will be on the island nation.  Interest in Japan has only grown – according to Virtuoso, leading up to last summer’s Olympics, Japan was the #3 destination American travelers were dreaming about visiting.

Park Hyatt Tokyo floats over the city at the top of a 53-story building with views across the metropolis and to Mount Fuji in the distance. Immortalized by Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, and Sofia Coppola in Lost in Translation, the hotel is still a must-see for visitors to Tokyo.

For when travelers are ready to visit, here are some reasons and fun facts why Park Hyatt Tokyo should be on the itinerary.

  • New York Grill serves 3% of the world’s wagyu beef.
    • Launching this summer at New York Grill is “Olive-fed Wagyu Beef,” a premium Sanuki beef. The cattle are raised on a farm where olives are grown. First, olives are pressed for oil, then the leftovers are fed to the cattle who then in turn fertilize the olive trees. Nothing goes to waste in the cycle. At New York Grill, Chef Paul Gajewski serves the rich, buttery, supremely marbled meat with its high oleic content which improves the tenderness and umami flavor. In conjunction, cocktails and snacks featuring local olives will also be prepared at New York Bar. This is running from July 6-August 31.
  • New York Bar has live jazz nightly and its Japanese Whisky flight is a must-try, tracing the history of Japanese whisky and its evolution.
  • Guests can participate in the bi-weekly Goodnight Sleep Stretch, a complimentary 30-minute program designed to prepare the body for restful sleep through stretches and breathing exercises.
  • Sankt Gallen – Japan’s pioneering craft brewery – partners with the hotel every summer to create the Park Brewery Ale, hopped with 20 aromatics.
  • The 65-foot pool sits in a glassed-in tower atop the sky with views over the city.
