At the D23 Expo, I had the chance to step into something truly extraordinary—the National Geographic Hexadome Experience. This isn’t your typical screening; it’s an immersive dive into the world of Nat Geo, blending over 25 of their best series, films, and documentaries from every era. Imagine being surrounded by six massive screens and bombarded with sound from 52 speakers—over 500 audio channels in total!

The ISM Hexadome, engineered by the Institute of Sound and Music Berlin, is the ultimate setup for this, putting you right in the middle of the action.

The experience was crafted by Sam Gill and Luke Neher, working with Little Cinema to stitch together hundreds of Nat Geo scenes into a brand-new, completely immersive film. The original score and 360° spatial sound design were just the icing on the cake, perfectly tailored to the Hexadome’s unique environment. It’s not just a film; it’s an all-encompassing journey that pulls you right into the heart of Nat Geo’s world.

What’s so special about the ISM Hexadome? Picture six rear-projection cinema screens and a 52-channel surround-sound system that mixed over 500 audio channels just for this experience. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen—or heard—before. The Hexadome places you in the center of a 360° audiovisual storm, making every moment feel larger than life.

Little Cinema has a history of taking things up a notch. They’ve partnered with big names like Darren Aronofsky to reimagine MOTHER! and worked with Constantin Films on a new take on The NeverEnding Story. Their latest project, De Niro NY, premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival in 2024, showing just how much they’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in immersive cinema.
