Hong Kong’s “New Year New Legend” countdown celebration soared into the night of January 1st, 2024, dazzling locals and a record-breaking number of visitors with the city’s most spectacular fireworks display yet. Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the 12-minute extravaganza painted the iconic Victoria Harbour with vibrant light, each burst echoing the city’s vibrant spirit as it welcomed the new year.

More than just a light show, the fireworks told a captivating story: a mesmerizing dance through the ever-changing seasons, perfectly capturing the beauty and dynamism of Hong Kong. This creative masterpiece wasn’t the only thing breaking records. By 10 pm on New Year’s Eve, over 223,000 visitors had flocked to the city, setting a new high for daily arrivals in 2023.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the triumphant return of the German cruise liner AIDAbella after a four-year hiatus. Over 2,000 guests from across Europe enjoyed the countdown festivities firsthand, experiencing the fireworks’ magic from the best seats in the house – the ocean itself. Their awestruck faces reflected the wonder that captivated everyone who witnessed this momentous occasion.
