Peach Blossom Yaoyao could be faintly heard meowing as the “Tao” afternoon tea was launched by Four Seasons Hotel Beijing in collaboration with artist Nie Jingzhu. The cat, with its bright, cute and elusive nature, seemed to embody the beauty, hope and mystery that people hold within themselves. In a way, the cat served as a reflection of oneself, and realizing this projection could bring more meaning to its existence.

Nie Jingzhu, a visual artist and designer, created a series of “meow”-themed images for the occasion. The idea was reminiscent of the ancient Egyptian legend of the cat god Buster’s magic mirror, which reflected the inner posture of individuals. Likewise, the Delphi Temple’s engraved phrase “know yourself,” and the Chinese Buddhist tradition of “seeing yourself, then seeing the world, and seeing all living beings” all implied the importance of discovering one’s true self.

The artistic presentation of the peach blossoms and the elegant cats, along with the unique art creation techniques and the delicious food, created a novel and lively experience. Amidst the busy and hectic pace of society, the tea served as an opportunity to pause and reconnect with one’s inner self.

The main element of the “Tao” afternoon tea at Four Seasons Hotel Beijing was the peach blossom meow, which was constructed by Bai Fan, the Executive Pastry Chef. The delicately crafted desserts incorporated the peach blossom-like spring in every bite, creating a seamless connection with the artistic elements of peach blossom meow.

The almond cream puffs were paired with an exquisite cat design, making for a delightful taste. The guava and lychee flavors were light and sweet, while the red berry mousse was adorned with peach blossoms, presenting a lively and beautiful dessert. The cherry blossom and peach-flavored kidney bean cake was soft and sweet, and the raspberry jelly foie gras tart provided a delightful salty and sweet balance. The cocktail sauce with crystal clear Hokkaido scallops, beetroot mousse puffs, and egg crepe caviar sandwiches provided a complete range of flavors.
